Abstract:

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACS) are employed both as disinfectants for manual processing lines and surfaces in the food industry, and in human medicine area. QACS also cause cell death by protein denaturation . One of the QAC is cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) that appears to rapture the cell membrane. The primary site of action of CTAB has been suggested to be the lipid components of the membrane, causing cell lysis as secondary effect. For these important roles of CTAB as a cationic surfactant, CTA (cetyl trimethyl ammonium) was studied as the main active site of CTAB. After optimization the values of thermodynamic functions, chemical shifts and Mulliken charges were obtained by calculation in Gaussian 98 program

Ab Initio Calculation 29Si NMR Chemical Shift Studies on Silicate Species in Aqueous and Gas Phase

Nowadays NMR spectroscopy becomes a powerful tool in chemistry because of the NMR chemical shifts. Hartree–Fock theory and the Gauge-including atomic orbital (GIAO) methods are used in the calculation of 29Si NMR chemical shifts of various silicate species in the silicate solution as initial components for zeolite synthesis both in gas and solution phase. Calculations have been performed at geo...

Ab initio quantum chemical study of electron transfer in carboranes

The electron transfer (ET) properties of 10and 12-vertex carboranes are investigated by the ab initio Hartree–Fock method within the Marcus-Hush (MH) two-statemodel and the Koopman theorem (KT) approach. The calculated value of the ET coupling matrix element, VAB, is consistently higher in the KT approach than in the MH two-state model. For the carborane molecules functionalized by –CH2 groups ...

Large-scale ab initio quantum chemical calculations on biological systems.

In this Account we describe recent advances in two ab initio electronic structure methods, localized perturbation approaches and density functional theory, that allow accurate calculations including electron correlation to be carried out for systems with hundreds of atoms. Application of these methods to large-scale modeling of biological systems is discussed. Localized perturbation methods are...

Just How Ab Initio Is Ab Initio Quantum Chemistry?

Quantum Mechanics has been the most spectacularly successful theory in the history of science. As is often mentioned the accuracy to which the gyromagnetic ratio of the electron can be calculated is a staggering nine decimal places. Quantum Mechanics has revolutionized the study of radiation and matter since its inception just over one hundred years ago. The impact of the theory has been felt i...

Ab initio studies of fullerene effect on chemical properties of naphazoline drop

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of fullerene on chemical properties of naphazoline drug in   water by density functional theory (DFT) methods.   Materials and Methods: Naphazoline belongs to the imidazoline class of sympathomimetics.   The present study on naphazoline drug and its fullerene connected form were carried out using   computerized calculations of Gaussian program in b3lyp/6-31g le...
